The City of North Myrtle Beach’s lifeguards must meet the minimum United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) standards which includes the following:
- Ability to swim 500 meters in ten minutes or less
- Successfully complete a 44 hour Lifeguard Academy class and receive certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. (This will be taught at the Lifeguard Academy)
Lifeguard candidates are required to attend and complete one of the four Lifeguard Academy and must be a minimum age of 16 years.
