The City of North Myrtle Beach’s lifeguards must meet the minimum United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) standards which includes the following:
  • Ability to swim less and 500 meters in Ten minutes or less
  • Successfully complete a 44 hour Surf Rescue Training class and receive certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. (This will be taught at the Surf Rescue Training)
Lifeguard candidates are required to attend and complete one of the four surf/rescue schools and must be a minimum age of 16 years.
